It’s anecdotal, but I spoke to a prospect today who said, and I quote,

“I appreciate the follow up, but if I understood your approach/services correctly, you are not what we are looking for at this time. As I understood it, you are more of a traditional SEO firm. We are… going with… [a company that]… offers a website [front end] and a dashboard [back end] that customers can access. That is more of the system we are looking for.”

Interesting… no mention of prob with price, service offerings, etc. What he wanted was what he called a “true white label solution”. So perhaps it’s canned/configured reports he thinks his Clients are after and pretty graphs and special portals they can (but never, ever will) access.

What I am saying is that perhaps there is Feature Sizzle erupting in the mktplace as a response to shrinking margins or “commoditization”.

If the Bigs can convince Clients that *these* features are core features of what they are buying, then all small shops are screwed. And, ironically, so are the Clients.

But yeah, Agencies see a Golden Goose and kill it promptly.
